### Project Description
The Franco-German World War I Memorial restoration project was developed with the objective of preserving and transmitting the duty of remembrance while ensuring the long-term sustainability of this historic site for future generations.
The restoration strategy carefully addressed the conservation of the monument and its architectural heritage, safeguarding its historical significance while improving accessibility and visitor engagement. Beyond the restoration itself, the project sought to connect the site's memory with contemporary environmental themes capable of attracting new audiences and strengthening community involvement.
Designed by Alexandre Vandiest of Paysage & Nature, the landscape intervention was conceived as a progressive and sensitive integration within the existing environment. Native plant communities, ecological considerations, and carefully curated landscape compositions were developed to reinforce local biodiversity while respecting the historical character of the memorial grounds. The resulting design establishes a subtle dialogue between heritage preservation, ecological stewardship, and contemporary landscape architecture.
The visualization study was developed by Tandem Studio in close collaboration with the landscape architect throughout the design process. The renderings served as communication and fundraising tools, helping stakeholders, local communities, and institutional partners understand the project's vision and long-term impact. The visualizations contributed to public engagement efforts and supported discussions with French and German cultural institutions involved in the preservation of this shared historical heritage.
Today, the project stands as an example of how landscape architecture, heritage conservation, and visual communication can work together to preserve collective memory while creating meaningful connections between history, community, and the natural environment.
